Some things are outside what the almanac can help with

If you came here from a reading request, it's because what you were about to write is heavier than a reading should carry — or because you wondered whether it might be. Either way, you were right to pause.

Hermit Compass reads timing and temperament. It is not equipped for danger, for crisis, or for a body or a mind that needs actual care, and pretending otherwise would not be kind. What follows is plainer than the rest of this site on purpose.

If you are in immediate danger

Call your local emergency number now. In much of Europe that is 112; in the US and Canada, 911; in the UK, 999. If you cannot speak safely, most services accept a silent call or a text.

If someone is making you feel unsafe, a local domestic-abuse service will know your options far better than any general advice — including options you may not know exist.

If you are struggling and want to talk to someone

findahelpline.com lists free, confidential helplines by country — phone, text and chat. It covers most of the world and takes about thirty seconds to use.

Reaching out is not a dramatic act. Most people who call are not in crisis; they are tired, or frightened, or turning something over that has become too heavy to hold alone.

If it's your health, your money, or the law

A doctor, an accountant or a lawyer will give you something a reading cannot: an answer they are accountable for. Those questions deserve someone qualified, and the good ones will tell you plainly when a thing is not as bad as you fear.

About your reading

If you had already paid for a sitting that turned out to belong here instead, it will be refunded in full — you don't have to ask, and you don't have to explain. If a refund hasn't reached you, write to hello@hermitcompass.life and it will be sorted.

And when things are steadier, the mountain is still here. The daily reading is free and always will be.
