Hermit Compass writes readings drawn from the Chinese almanac, the sexagenary calendar and related traditions, against a person's birth chart and the day. It is offered for reflection. A reading is a lens to think with — not a prediction, not a diagnosis, and not a statement of fact about your life or anyone else's.
Readings are composed with the assistance of AI and reviewed before they are sent. We say so plainly because you are entitled to know what you are buying.
A reading each morning, drawn for your chart. It costs nothing, it needs no password, and you can stop it from any email.
One question, read against your chart and the season — or two charts read together. Prices are shown before you pay. What you get:
A long reading of the Fire Goat year written against one birth chart. It is a digital book: it opens on this site and in your email on December 24, 2026, and it stays there. Nothing is printed and nothing is posted.
You may order a copy for someone else. You give their name, their birth details and their email address at the time of ordering, and by doing so you confirm they are an adult you actually know. Their email is used once, on December 24, to send them the book in your name — they hear nothing from us before that morning, and they are not added to any mailing list. We do not show you their reading.
Prices are in US dollars and are the whole of what you pay — if any tax applies, it is shown at checkout before you confirm. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
You may change your mind for fourteen days from the day you order, for any reason or none. Write one line to hello@hermitcompass.life and the full amount is returned to the card you used. No reason is asked for and none is recorded. Your copy is released back into the printing.
After fourteen days the book is no longer refundable as of right, because it is written specifically for your chart. If something has genuinely gone wrong, write to us anyway.
A Lens reading begins as soon as it is paid for, because the three-day promise leaves no room to wait. When you send a question you ask us to begin immediately and acknowledge that, once the reading has been delivered, the statutory fourteen-day right of withdrawal no longer applies. That consent is recorded with your request. Before delivery you may cancel for a full refund — just write to us.
If we decline your question, you are refunded in full, always. The refund is sent before we write to you, so the money is already back by the time you read our note. See section 4.
If we are late, you may have your money back. The promise is three days. If five days pass from payment and you have heard nothing from us, write and ask — the refund is sent, with no argument and no questions. A promise nobody can hold us to is not a promise.
Some questions a birth chart genuinely cannot speak to, and answering them anyway would be worth less than nothing to you. If you send one of these, we refund you in full and tell you what the almanac can read instead. You are welcome to bring that version.
If what you send suggests you are in danger or in crisis, we will not sell you a reading. We refund you, point you to people who can actually help, and say so kindly. That is not a judgement about you.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us.
We aim to keep the site available but do not guarantee it. If we are ever unable to deliver something you have paid for, we refund it.
Your email address identifies you here; there is no password. A delivered reading lives at a private link, and that link is the key — anyone who has it can read it, so keep it to yourself. If you lose it, write to us and we will send it again.
The readings, essays, almanac entries and the writing on this site are ours. A reading written for you is yours to keep, print and share with whomever you like. Please do not resell it or republish it as your own work.
Hermit Compass is for readers aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly write for, or about, a minor.
We may update these terms. The version in force for an order is the one published when you placed it, and we will not change the terms of something you have already paid for. Material changes will be dated at the top of this page.
