Sign years begin at Lunar New Year — late January or February — not January 1. Born in those weeks? You may belong to the year before; enter your birthday and the reading engine sorts it exactly.

The nature of the Goat

In the Great Race, the Goat crossed on a raft with the Monkey and the Rooster, sharing the work of it — eighth place, earned together. It is the only placing in the story that three animals won as one.

The Goat is the cycle's artist and its soft heart. Goat people are gentle, imaginative, and attuned to comfort — theirs and everyone else's. They make places feel like somewhere; they notice beauty the way others notice weather. Community is not a strategy for them but a habitat.

The shadow is worry, and the lean — the Goat can fret itself thin and rest its weight on steadier shoulders longer than it should. At its best, its softness is a form of courage: the insistence, against a hard world's advice, on staying kind.

The five Goats

Each return of the Goat arrives under a different element, on a sixty-year wheel — so a Fire Goat and a Water Goat share a nature but not a temperament.

Fire Goat (1967) — heat and visibility — the Goat at its boldest, quick to act and hard to miss.

Earth Goat (1979) — ground and patience — the steadiest Goat, practical and built to last.

Metal Goat (1991) — edge and resolve — the Goat with the firmest will and the cleanest lines.

Water Goat (2003) — feel and flow — the most intuitive Goat, reading currents others miss.

Wood Goat (2015) — growth and plans that branch — a Goat turned toward building and beginnings.

Fire Goat (2027) — heat and visibility — the Goat at its boldest, quick to act and hard to miss.

Company it keeps

Tradition groups the twelve into four trines of like minds. The Goat runs with the Rabbit and the Pig — the gentle ones — peaceable natures that guard the warmth of things. Opposite it on the wheel stands the Ox: not an enemy, but a mirror — the friction that teaches what ease cannot. And its quiet ally, the so-called secret friend, is the Horse, the bond that asks no performance.

The Goat in late 2026 — the Fire Horse's turn

The Horse is your quiet ally, and the year may have treated you more gently than you expected. The second half is for gentle building.

The Worklean into creative, patient work; what you make slowly now is what lasts.
The Welltend simple comforts and steady means over ambitious reaches.
The Heartthis is a warm season for you — nurture the bonds that feed you.
The Bodyfollow softness: good food, good rest, unhurried days.

The turn: lean into what nourishes rather than what impresses.
